August at 20:00
A funny and
frightening rollercoaster journey investigating our planet’s most extreme
weather as told and filmed by ordinary people caught in ‘the eye of the storm’.
We follow the incredible human stories of the families caught up in snowstorms,
frightening moor fires and a too close for comfort lightning strike. We also
meet a retired homeowner whose property was on the edge of the cliff following
accelerated coastal erosion, where 30 metres of dunes were lost over night. The
film uses jaw dropping, often never before seen footage, captured on cameras
and phones. It also explores the science behind these events and why our
weather is getting wilder every year.

BBC Earth: Why Do I
Put On Weight? (1x60)
Tuesday 20th
August at 19:00
Your skinny best friend seems to eat twice as much as you. But you’re
still overweight. Why? For decades, experts thought they had the answer: too
many calories and not enough exercise. But the latest scientific research is
turning those assumptions on their head. Differences in our individual biology
– our genetics, hormones or psychology – all play a crucial role. Now, five
volunteers are going on diets tailored to their bodies and brains. They’re just
like you – normal people who spend their lives going up and down in weight.
Combining rock-solid science with engaging personal stories, this experiment
will revolutionise how we think about diet. Think long-term weight loss is
impossible? Think again.
