Six brand-new TV shows on VIA this August

Old favourites like the agricultural programme Landbouweekliks and the dating show Die Kliek also return to the Afrikaans lifestyle channel with new seasons.

The annual Apprentesses project has been helping young female influencers make a name for themselves in the entertainment industry since 2014. In Ster-status VIA’s cameras follow this year’s competition to see who will be crowned as 2019’s winner. Luré Delport, last year’s Apprentesses winner, is the presenter. Starts 5 August. Mondays at 18:00 with repeats on Saturdays at 15:30 as of 17 August.

With the Rugby World Cup around the corner, we are celebrating the illustrious careers of Springbok legends such as Naas Botha, Os du Randt, Breyton Paulse, Mannetjies Roux and Errol Tobias. In Groen en goud – presented in association with Netwerk24 – the careers of these rugby greats are explored by the journalists who make a living about writing about this great game. Starts 9 August: Fridays at 17:30 with repeats on Sundays at 19:30.

In the new food show Dit proe soos huis the popular SARIE food editor Herman Lensing pays homage to his late mother. He cooks her favourite dishes with an array of famous guests such as actors Donnalee Roberts and Dean Smith and VIA’s own TV chef Marinda Engelbrecht. The TV shows ties in with Herman’s cookbook of the same name which will be available this year. Starts 12 August: Mondays at 17:30 with repeats on Sundays at 16:30.

In the supercool, new travel show Sien, smaak, slaap the hipster couple Henk and Suna Brand invite viewers to explore the most interesting corners of the Western Cape. In each episode Henk, founder of the travel blog The Secret Adventurer, and his fashionista wife Suna hit the road to put together unique travel packages. Starts 14 August: Wednesdays at 17:30 with repeats on Saturdays at 16:00 as of 24 August.

In VIA’s new magazine programme Stories wat saakmaak Coenie de Villiers and Lyntjie Jaars shed light on the stories of businesses, organisations and individuals working to build a better South Africa. The show deals with the beautiful and the inspirational stories around us that we rarely notice. Starts 4 August: Sundays at 20:00 with repeats on Wednesdays at 18:00.

The thrilling new reality show Stem saam follows three high schools’ a cappella groups as they prepare for the 2019 Animato A Cappella competition. Tune in from 16 August to find out which school will be crowned as the winner. Fridays at 20:00 with repeats on Saturdays at 21:30.
