Truck Wars
“Avoid being on the N3 at night” – that’s the alarming warning from authorities as violent attacks on freight trucks continue to escalate country-wide and especially on the N3 trade route linking Durban and Johannesburg.  But with 88% of goods in South Africa being transported by road, and almost 50% on this route alone, this national stretch of highway is the lifeblood of the logistics system and the backbone of the economy.  As government scrambles to deal with the armed assailants targeting truck drivers, Carte Blanche investigates the real reasons behind the violence that’s crippling the industry.
